Creating a New Moon Ritual That Works for You | The Intrepid Hearts

Looking to create a new moon ritual that serves you? Let me help!

New Moon Ritual The Intrepid Hearts

When I first started my spiritual journey I always heard people talking about performing new moon rituals. As a recovering perfectionist, I was so stressed that I might do something incorrectly which would cause my ritual to fail. I tried googling things like "new moon ritual" or "how to set intentions" in an effort to find out what the heck I was supposed to do.

However, I soon discovered that there was not a one size fits all approach to performing a meaningful ritual. In fact, the best thing to do is to take time to create your own ritual that deeply resonates with you on a soul level. Along my journey I've found things that work really well for me, and I've found some things that were a dud. The point is to listen to your higher self and allow yourself to create a ritual that is personal to you.

Find your inner creator, because there’s a spark of Divinity in that.  And when you can connect with that, then you’re going to come fully into your heart... Allow yourself to feel into it.  Give yourself that gift and that freedom.  And it might feel really strange at first if you’ve never done that before. It might feel like you’re breaking the rules, or you don’t know what you’re doing – like you’re not doing it good enough.  And just see if you can allow yourself to move beyond that.

Below I've created a list of suggestions for you to try out during the next new moon. You might find something that really resonates with you while other things don't speak to you at all. The point is to take what works for you and build upon it:

Make a List of Your Intentions

One of the basic ideas of a new moon ritual is to set intentions you'd like to manifest during the lunar cycle. With intention, you're using the Law of Attraction to help draw whatever it is you want into your life. Be sure to stay away from words like "I want..." or "I hope...". These disempower you and imply that there is lack in your life. Instead, come from a place of empowerment by stating "I am creating..." or "I intend to..." Then revisit your intentions every morning. Right after we wake up our mental barriers are down, so it's easier for the subconscious to receive these messages within about 30 minutes of getting up. Use these 30 minutes to read them over your intentions to keep them at the forefront of your mind.

Journaling

This exercise comes from Katie Dalebout's awesome book, Let It Out: A Journey Through Journaling. After you've written down all of your intentions, take a moment to read them over. Let them fill you with excitement. Now, grab a blank piece of paper or take out your journal and free write about the type of person you'd need to become in order to manifest your intentions. Use this time to free write about what your life will be like once your intentions manifest, how you'll feel, what you'll experience, etc. Once you've spent some time doing that, let it all go and trust that the Universe is bringing it to you.

Visualization

After you've defined what it is you want, spend some time visualizing it as if it had already come to pass. See yourself experiencing your intention -- what does it feel like? Smell like? Sound like? Taste like? Use your five senses to help summon up the emotions that will occur once these intentions manifest.

Meditate

Spend some time meditating and clearing your energy so that you'll be prepared to create new opportunities in your life. After you've centered yourself, visualize strong roots extending from your root chakra and going down deep into the earth.

Take a moment to imagine anything that no longer serves you is being released down into the earth to be recycled by Mother Earth. Next, imagine opening up your crown chakra and allowing a bright white light to come down through your crown and begin filling up your body. Continue to focus on your breath and allow this clean, cool light to cleanse and restore you. After some time, imagine a light blue bubble forming around you. This blue bubble is here to help protect you from negative, low vibrating energy as you go through your day. Whenever you're ready, open your eyes and express gratitude for this healing meditation.

Create a Sigil

I recently discovered sigils, and now I love them! A sigil is a representation of whatever it is you are intending to manifest. If you'd like to create one, write down a simple phrase that embodies your intention. For example, a few months ago I was working on my intuition, so I made my statement "I AM INTUITIVE". Next, go through and cross out any vowels and repeated letters. "I AM INTUITIVE" becomes MNTV. Then, use those letters to create a symbol that really speaks to you. You can either meditate on it, burn it to activate it or post it in certain places to serve as a subconscious reminder.

Create Your Own Ritual

Remember that all of these things are suggestions. You can use them, mix and match them or you can throw them away. Give yourself permission to experiment and play with different things that speak to you. Also, your ritual doesn't have to the same every new moon. Feel where you are energetically and allow that to fuel what you do. Overall, the most important thing is to create something that is deeply personal for you.
