Happy new year, you fearless souls!
After a bit of a hiatus during the holidays, I’m happy to be back and excited to leap into 2019 with all of you.
This month’s Mirror card is the Page of Wands, reversed. You might be feeling excited to get started manifesting all of your goals and desires for 2019, but there’s a sense of uncertainty. You may be thinking “Where do I even begin?” You’re not sure what actions to take, and you might feel like your goals are perhaps a bit too lofty.
You’re afraid of taking the wrong step, so you end up taking no steps. You’re stuck, uncertain and afraid. It’s like you’re on one side of a cliff and the person you want to be is on another cliff across a scary, rocky chasm. All you want to do is to get over to that other side, but the way across looks like its too hard. It seems like the easiest choice is to save face, give up and stay where you are.
Society puts a lot of pressure on us to have our “new year resolutions” figured out before the clock even strikes midnight on January 1st. You know there’s this better version of yourself that you want to be, but it feels like you’re unable to reach him or her. Plus, you didn’t have your plan in place by 12:00 AM, January 1st. So screw it! You wouldn’t have been able to do it anyway.
Stop beating yourself up!
The King of Swords, reversed tells us that we need a new way of working with our brain, especially when things might seem like they’re going awry. You didn’t have your new year resolutions in place at the stroke of midnight? Who cares?! True growth takes time, patience, dedication and love.
Instead of hitting yourself over the head for any perceived failures, this King asks you to take a softer approach. Spend some time this month noticing your thoughts. Take note any time you believe you’ve come up short. How do you talk to yourself? Would you say that same thing to a friend or loved one?
You don’t need to be perfect from day one. Change is fluid. Some things will succeed, others may not go the way you hoped they would, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean you turn around and give up. Be gentle with yourself, reassess, and then move forward.
A mantra that might help you throughout this month is “I’m doing the best I can with what I have and know.” You have the opportunity to make 2019 the best year of your life. Give yourself grace during times of contraction and watch yourself soar.
